I have rosacea? dermatologist didn't give me anything?

I read all these responses and people say my dermatologist gave me this and that for rosacea but i don%26#039;t understand why he didn%26#039;t give me anything he just told me to use sunscreen. he also told me there is no cure for rosacea but I understand that.. but why didn%26#039;t he give me something to control it. I am 14 and I am afraid my condition will worsen but how can I take care of this problem and I have been trying to convince my parents to let me have a laser surgery done but is it worth going throw all that hassle? and will it get rid of it completly. I wake up every morning and I have to apply foundation to my face. I feel very embarressed when I go to school since people are like, your face is red! I just kind of play it off even though inside I feel will it ever go away? I am just really confused..does anyone have any suggestions or any advice on my rosacea skin condition?|||I have rosacea also. Like you, I had it while in school; unlike you, I did not know what it was. A friend of mine said her husband (a doc.) had written her a prescription for Metro-Gel to put on her face. I asked him about it for myself and he also gave me a prescription. I don%26#039;t know why your doctor did not give you Metro-Gel; that is the topical medication used in most cases. Also, you might ask your doctor for a prescription of Tectrocytraline (sp.?)which is an antibiotic that sometimes helps the inflammation. The Metro-Gel also helps with the redness and any breaking out or flaking around the nose you may have.

Your diet can also contribute to the severity of the rosacea. Very spicy hot peppery foods tends to aggravate the symptoms.

There is a make-up made especially for people with rosacea and other skin problems called Derm-a-blend. You can get it at places like Belks, Hechts, etc. Also, and very important switch your makeup and cleansers to Clinque(spelling is alittle off). They are the number one doctor suggested make-up and cleansers on the market.

I hope this helps.|||If you need more info on Rosacea or treatment visit the following:

|||I tried metrogel %26amp; metrocream from my dermotologist, but it really didnt do much. I got much better results by slapping a thick coat of spf 30 on my face anytime I was about to go outdoors and staying away from spicy hot, or %26quot;just plain hot%26quot; food. If you can get away with wearing a broad rimmed hat too, do it.|||I have rosacea as well, and have dealt with it for the past 16 years. I didn%26#039;t develop it until I was in my 20s, and I can just imagine how horrible it would be in your teens, so you have my deepest sympathies.

If you%26#039;re not comfortable with what your doctor said, or how he/she%26#039;s treating you, then by all means find another. Just because a doctor%26#039;s a dermatologist doesn%26#039;t mean they%26#039;re very familiar with rosacea as well. Find one who is. I%26#039;m with you, I don%26#039;t understand why the doc didn%26#039;t give you a prescription for metrogel or tetracycline, those are kinda the first line of defense against rosacea. The doc is right about using sunscreen, you%26#039;re going to have to be super vigilant about that one. I use sunblock every day on my face.

I have also found an over the counter product that works well in conjunction with my prescription meds, it%26#039;s made by Dermadoctor, and is called Calm, Cool and Corrected. I put this on twice a day before my moisturizer/sunblock, and it has really made a difference in my skin, it looks better than it%26#039;s looked in probably 15 years. Here%26#039;s a link

On laser surgery, if you want to go that route, make sure you%26#039;re getting it from a licenced dermatologist, again who specialises in rosacea treatment.

There are also many powders/concealers that are tinted green that will help cover the redness. I know you probably want to be able to run out of the house w/o makeup and not be red, but it%26#039;s probably not going to happen.

Best of luck to you! Keep smiling, that will make you pretty no matter what!|||I am 48 and have suffered with rosacea for years. I have tried all of the usual prescription treatments, such as Metrogel and Finacea, as well as adjusting my diet, but never had any luck with any of them. My teenage daughter suggested that I try her Proactiv because it had cleared up her mild acne. I looked at their website and called their 800 number, but could not get any response as to whether it would help rosacea. After procrastinating a little longer, I finally thought that I really had nothing to lose by trying it.

I am not exaggerating when I tell you that I could tell a difference within three days of starting on their products!! After five days, my husband, who did not know that I had started this new program, asked me what I was doing differently, because my skin (and this is a direct quote) %26quot;looked luminous%26quot;.

It has now been over three months, and my skin is FLAWLESS!!!! The painful sores that had taken up permanent residence around my nostrils are GONE. The flair ups along my chin that would coincide with my period are a thing of the past. This may sound like a paid advertisement, but I promise you, it is not. I%26#039;m an ordinary, middle aged woman who, for the first time in years and years, has clear skin. I sometimes even go to the store without any makeup, simply because I%26#039;m no longer ashamed.

I only use two of their products. First, I wash with the Renewing Cleanser, and then apply the Repairing Lotion. Do NOT use the Toner, as it contains witch hazel, which is known to aggravate rosacea. One other bit of advice...only use white towels and pillowcases, or use old ones that you no longer care about. I ruined several of each, before realizing that these products bleach the color out of fabrics. But, hey---that is a small price I will willingly pay to be able to face the world with clear skin!|||I would DEFINITELY suggest seeing another dermatologist. If you don%26#039;t feel comfortable with his choice, find another, and another until you get the results you need. Don%26#039;t forget that though many people become doctors, it does not mean they are qualified enough to handle their jobs, and I can think of plenty. I don%26#039;t know what sunscreen is going to do for it, but try seeing another doctor, and researching possible treatment for rosacea to suggest to the new doctor. It may just get you the results you deserve.|||Your rosacea can be improved if you get IPL intense pulse light treatments. I do these treatments to my clients at the salon- they have improved skin in 1-5 sessions and are encouraged by the results. I have seen pustular rosacea, as well as slight redness, and both improved with this treatment.

You can reverse rosacea. Consult your local day spa and ask about photorejuvenation or Intense Pulse Light.

Good luck
