Dermatologist dots, mole???

I want to get my DOts, spot, mole. What do you call those when you have black or brown dots in your skin? I want to remove those. what do i need to know to remove mole or whatever they are called. Do i need to contact my family doctor? Does my insurence cover it? If they are really small, they could just be freckles.
